Great Synagogue

2019 (Romania)

In one of the more bizarre adventures I've had, this location presented a first for me, as I actually got locked inside the synagogue and had to improvised a new way out! Located in the coastal city of Constanta, this beautiful building has been abandoned since the late 90's. The roof has collapsed & nature is taking over again.

I had arrived very early in the morning with the advice of an unlocked gate being the way in. That worked! But during my visit, someone drove up and secured the lock! I finished getting my photos (there is a limit to where you can walk - the central area is very unstable with roof and vegetation forming a bumpy floor) and then spent quite some time trying to escape again! All before breakfast by the sea...
