Thames Estuary Maunsell Forts: Part 2 - Shivering Sands Army Fort.

Next on this trip was the anti-aircraft sea defence located 9.2 miles out & built in 1943. Really quite spectacular to witness albeit not easy to photograph from a boat! One of the original towers was knocked down by a boat in 1963 & as they currently stand in a shipping lane, sadly the rest are due for demolition. I'm glad I got the chance to see them, as there really is nothing quite like it on the planet! (with the exception of the Red Sands forts - see my separate page!)
