Hotel Gelati

Hotel Gelati is another former spa hotel that now plays host to the IDP's of the Abkhazia-Georgia conflict. We were conscious that this building had a higher percentage of occupancy than in the rest of the town, so we walked around a communal part of the hotel & tried not to impede on the areas where people were living.

It's a very colourful place and I wish we could have accessed a little bit more. Bizarrely in the former foyer someone now parks their sports car. It's a strange site but nothing was surprising us after a few days in this town, where the locals sing karaoke in empty restaurants and the bars hold discos from eras long gone. But it's a spirited place full of life and friendly people.
