Kraftwerk V (Part 1)

2020 (Germany)

The giant beast of a structure is a former coal power plant, built in 1937 & decommissioned in the late 1990's. The turbine hall stretches nearly 250 metres long, mostly stripped out now but that actually makes you more aware of the vast size. In the basement level, enormous valves jut out from the floor.

This explore was a long time coming & it was worth the wait. I'd never seen anything like it. It's strange how such a large building can be so silent, which makes you conscious of every noise you do hear. Most of the sound is simply the wind catching in the wide open space. With a bit of a climb you can tread the walkways hanging over the edge of the turbine hall for mind boggling views - every step is a slow one.
