MV Royal Iris

2019-2021 (United Kingdom)

This former Mersey Ferry lies derelict on the banks of the River Thames, not far from the Thames Barrier. It was towed to London in the hope of a new purpose but has been left abandoned ever since. In its heyday, even the Beatles had performed here. It's in pretty bad shape now & constantly is submerged deeply at high tide.

As it is very close to me, I've taken photos over a period of time & after two years of waiting, I finally got onboard to take interiors too. It's full of pigeons & quite an unnerving place to be. Cargo crates form spooky monoliths keeping the ceilings up & the pigeons rest across these like a scene from Hitchcock's The Birds.
